I am seeking information about a piano that I acquired years ago. It is marked with a company logo inside the top lid. It reads “King Piano Company”. It has an angel on each side of the logo and also states a price of $300.00. It reads upright grand on the lid. The piano appears to be made of tiger oak and I beleive that the keys are real ivory. The piano does play but is in need of a complete redo. I would appreciate any info on this piano regarding its history and value. Thank you for your time. Michael

King Piano Company was established in 1901 by Arthur J. King in Chicago, IL and Bluffton, Ind. They manufactured pianos from 1902 – 1917. If you would like to know the age of your piano, please reply with the 5 digit serial number.

John, any suggestions for locating a very high pitch sympathetic ringing in a Steinway “L” F, F# & G 3(bell like). It is not related to the voicing or the strings and bridges. I placed a towel over all the open strings and duplex areas. It is in the piano not outside like a crystal glass. It is very disturbing to the customer. JIM

Jim – Are you sure there aren’t any other dampers that might be ringing sympathetically?

I cannot find any information about Winkler Pianos. There are the few snippets here and there, but nothing substantial like SN lists. I have a Pierce Piano Atlas, but it only says they existed. When did the company stop production, and what was the fate of the Winkler Piano Company?

I know that in the depression a lot of comapnies went under, and that any older company that has ceased to exist was using paper records that it can be extremely difficult to locate information.

    Can you help?

    Much appreciated.

I have gathered all the information the internet has to offer about the Winkler piano company. I have also been in contact with direct descendents of the Winkler family. Unfortunately I have not yet found out the fate of the company or a way to date their pianos. If Kristina would like to contact me that is fine, I will share all the info I have found and we could exachange the serial numbers of our Winkler pianos. I have a Winkler studio upright that I can only estimate was made in the late 1920′s early 1930′s. I am restoring it. -dB
